Abstract
We propose a hypothesis to account for a counterintuitive phenomenon that we have found so far: an implicit hint of an insight problem can hinder solving the problem. Four experiments revealed that cognitive control, via inhibition, can disable us from using existing knowledge that is important to solve the problem.
