Male Support for Female Honor Norms As a Mate-Guarding Tactic

Cultural psychologists suggest that men support women’s honor because female infidelity/promiscuity threatens men’s reputation. Beyond this, the individual-level psychological mechanisms which produce men’s support for female honor norms are not known. Here, we show that men's support female honor norms is an indirect mate guarding tactic, motivated by sexual jealousy.
