Abstract

Hotspots (affectively salient locations in space) elicit assimilation nearby and contrast farther away. Laboratory evidence indicates such a pattern for self-reported valence and arousal. However, facial muscle data remain inconclusive. Electrodermal activity similarly decreased in both the experimental (hotspot) and the control condition (no hotspot) as a function of distance.
