Abstract

Teachers’ prejudice reduction practices can increase student engagement when accompanied by positive explicit multicultural attitudes. Implicit ethnic attitudes have no effect on this relationship perhaps because teachers monitor their automatic behaviors to prevent their biased implicit attitudes from playing out, due to their egalitarian self-concepts or to avoid social sanctions.
