Abstract

Fuzzy-trace theory makes surprising predictions that gist-based decision biases increase from childhood to adulthood; such biases are associated with healthier decisions and reduced criminality. Adolescents and adults responded to decision problems and Self-Report Psychopathy Scales. Consistent with predictions, higher adult psychopathy was associated with lower gist-based biases, controlling for impulsivity.
