Abstract

Do more people take a risk when it requires trustworthiness or luck? Some researchers find betrayal aversion, others principled trustfulness. In two laboratory studies with a total of 839 participants, we varied payoff structures in trust games and lotteries. We did not find decisions to be guided by betrayal aversion.
