Structural Inequality in Social Dilemmas: Evidence from Public Goods Games

Abstract
When individuals cooperate, they necessarily have to distribute the joint payoff among them. This research investigates how equal vs. unequal distributions affect individuals’ willingness to cooperate. Experimental evidence from social dilemmas with asymmetric payoff matrices shows that such an structural inequality indeed decreases cooperation.
