Abstract

Our neurocognitive responses to external events attenuate when our attention drifts off-task. How do these responses recover when we attentionally re-engage? We recorded event-related potentials while participants reported their attentional state and affective evaluations of visual images. Our findings suggest that affective processes normalize before cognitive processes do.
