Abstract
We found the ability to recognise emotional expressions was influenced by interactions between social category membership of perceivers and perceived faces. An advantage for identifying happy faces relative to angry faces – the happy face advantage – was contextually modulated by the relative in-group/out-group relationship between perceivers and perceived faces.
