The Fixation-Based Memory Effect Used to Reveal Concealed Information Is Robust Against Intentional Memory Suppression

Abstract

We examined the effectiveness of intentional memory suppression as a countermeasure in a fixation-based concealed information test. Although memory suppression pushed recall performance below baseline, the early fixation-based memory effect, that is, longer second fixation durations to known (and suppressed) items compared to unknown items was unaffected by memory suppression.
