Animacy Effect in Metaphor Processing: An ERP Study

Abstract
Our findings confirm the animacy effect in metaphor processing. The final-word of metaphorical sentence with inanimate-actor as NP1 elicited smaller P600 relative to the animate ones. This might arise from preceding animacy violation, which may produce the prediction of an ideal augment for metaphor, therefore facilitate the inanimate metaphor.
