Abstract

In two cross-modal experiments with young adults we investigated the dissociation between symbolic (digits, words) and non-symbolic numbers (dot arrays, tones), by manipulating the number range (small vs. large) and the presentation modality (auditory-visual vs. visual-auditory). Results supported the existence of two independent processing systems for symbolic and non-symbolic numbers.
