Abstract

Contagious stress describes the transmission of stress from a stressed person to an observer. Shared social identity between target and observer was manipulated and participants observed a target undergoing a stressful situation (TSST). Physiological and affective contagious stress was elicited. Contagious stress was not moderated by social identity.
