Abstract

Drawing from life history research, we show that early-life experiences may guide people towards either the narrow, deep, or the broad, shallow social approach. Cues of economic instability seem to lead those who grew up poorer (vs. wealthier) to prefer a narrow, deep social network to a broad, shallow one.
