Abstract
We examined how intergroup bias influences the formation and evolution of stereotypes as information is passed from person to person. As information about novel groups passed down social transmission chains, stereotypes formed that were increasingly structured, simplified, and learnable. Stereotypes formed for in-group targets were more positive than out-group targets.
