Abstract

Multidimensional Embodiment, asking people to imagine that a negative episode has physical dimensions, reduces its negative impact as a function of the number of dimensions. Two experiments, run respectively in Mexico and Germany, both with naïve undergraduates, yielded gradual and statistically significant reductions in aversiveness, and increments in controllability ratings.
