Mortality Salience and Uncertainty Threat Among Younger Vs. Older Adults

How do older individuals respond differently from younger individuals to existential threats? We tested the effects of mortality salience vs. uncertainty threat on defensive psychological distancing across younger and older adults. Older but not younger adults showed less—not more—defensiveness in the face of existential threat.
