How Does Psychological Distance Influence the Willingness to Help the Victim of an Accident? Discrepancy between Implicit and Explicit Inferences

Abstract

We explored how psychological distance from an accident influences the willingness to help the victim. Results indicated that people tended to make more trait attributions for a distant accident at an implicit level, which in turn provoked more situational attributions at an explicit level, leading to increased willingness to help.
