Examining the Relationships between Second Language Learning and Performance in First Language Grammar and Math

Abstract

Participants with some second language proficiency scored marginally higher on a math exercise than those without any proficiency, but there was no effect on first language grammar. Specific proficiency levels and methods of language acquisition did not have an effect. Grade point average and SAT scores were better score predictors.
