Abstract

Planning task distributions during joint action is thought to depend on mentalizing. Our findings show that joint action partners avoid mentalizing and use less cognitively demanding heuristics to distribute tasks. These include taking turns at each step, minimizing overall number of turns, or following perceptual task features when taking turns.
