Abstract

The study examined seven “non-intellective factors”, including self-control, grit, and mastery goal. Factor analyses revealed that these constructs were best represented by a single factor, which prospectively predicted academic performance and well-being in 745 early adolescents. These effects were mediated by adaptive appraisals and behaviors in response to academic difficulty.
