Some Words Are More like Pictures: Word Type Response Biases in Reaction Time Tasks

Abstract

Reaction times (RTs) to images/words are the core feature of several prominent psychological tasks (e.g., the IAT). Across four studies (N > 700) we show that the concreteness of words influences RTs. This bias will have an influential impact on various RT tasks and subsequent interpretations if not accounted for.
