Superhumanization of Caregivers: The Downsides of Being Strong

Abstract

Psychologist have long explored the disastrous consequences of dehumanization – stripping others of their humanness. With the example of full-time spousal caregivers, I propose that the complimentary process - ascribing saint-like or superhuman properties to others-also leads to deleterious effects.
