Abstract

Protests in South Africa are increasingly violent. Little research has examined the experiences of officers of the South African Police Service (SAPS) who police protests. Focus group were conducted with SAPS officers who police protests. The findings illuminated both affinities and dissonances in the officers’ narratives of policing violent protest.
