Superstitions Increase Risk Perception

Abstract

Studies have shown that superstitions may help people cope with uncertainty-induced anxiety. We show the dark side of superstitions, by showing that after exposing participants to negative or positive superstitions they evaluate the probability of occurrence for negative life-events as higher compare to participants that were exposed to neutral rituals.
