Abstract

We studied the effect of the menstrual cycle on attention (alerting, orienting and executive control). Only in the luteal phase, post ovulation, we found an alerting state, mediated by progesterone level. The alertness system was activated with or without alertness manipulation, influencing the interaction with executive control and orienting networks.
