Abstract

Evidence emerged for an indirect effect of pain-related anxiety on perceived barriers to smoking cessation, negative affect reduction motives, and negative mood abstinence expectancies through dysphoria; reversal models were non-significant. Findings suggested that dysphoria may serve to maintain maladaptive smoking processes in smokers who experience pain-related anxiety.
