Abstract

This study highlights the centrality of self-based evaluations in purchase decision-making. When consumers focus on their superordinate goals (abstract mindset), self-based evaluation alone significantly predicted purchase intention. However, when consumers focus on subordinate goals (concrete mindset), public-based evaluation and self-related variables predicted purchase intention as well as self-based evaluation.
