Minding Blood Sugar: How Misperceptions of Sugar Consumption Influence Patients with Type 2 Diabetes

Abstract

The authors examines study participants who have type 2 diabetes to determine whether expectations affects diabetic metabolism, in contrast with widely held suppositions. Our findings suggest that manipulation of participants’ perception of sugar consumption results in blood glucose levels changing in accordance with their perceptions rather than actual sugar consumption.
