Abstract

The positive relation between immigrants’ educational attainment and their perceived discrimination, also referred to as the paradox of integration, is explained for recent immigrants in Germany. The results show that three theoretical approaches (opportunity structure, awareness, and relative deprivation) contribute to the explanation. Different ethnic groups require slightly different explanations.
