Abstract

How do lay people react to the replication crisis? Five preregistered studies (N = 1451) found that low replicability damages public trust in psychology. Crucially, attempts to repair this trust through information about open science (Study 3), hidden moderators (Study 4), or improved replicability (Study 5) showed to be ineffective.
