Teaching an Incremental Theory of Emotions Attenuates Harsh Blame Attribution during Social Judgment

Abstract

Participants' implicit emotion beliefs were measured and manipulated using a contrived scientific article prior to a blame attribution task. The studies demonstrated that when participants were taught an Entity theory of emotions they placed harsher blame on actors behaving transgressively than participants who were taught a an Incremental theory.
