Abstract

Vicarious trauma is a clinician’s negative transformation in response to clients’ traumatic material. Researchers think empathy is positively associated with VT (Pearlman & McCann, 1995). We evaluated associations between empathy and VT. We found perspective taking was negatively associated with VT. Consequently, it appears empathy may be a protective factor.
