Abstract

We ran six visual-word-recognition experiments using transposition effects to evaluate if Hindi is read alphabetically. Various letters for consonants and vowels and their combinations (or akshars) were transposed. Our results highlight the importance of letter in reading Hindi, and shows that Hindi is read alphabetically regardless of L2-English literacy levels.
