Abstract

Graphical accompaniments to text material facilitate memory and comprehension for the material. College students were presented with ambiguous paragraphs that expressed contextual information through a topic sentence, related image, or unrelated image. The presence of unrelated images made the paragraph more difficult to understand, and was associated with logical errors.
