Abstract

Sexual minorities experience higher rates of mental and physical illness than heterosexuals. We used affective science to understand the factors that buffer sexual minorities against illness. We found that adaptive emotion regulation strategies were positively predictive of resilience. This resilience in turn mediated the relationship between discrimination and psychopathology.
