Abstract

This study examined communication, marital satisfaction, and divorce among newlywed couples entering marriage with children. Parent newlyweds had less positive, more negative, and less effective communication than nonparent newlyweds. However, communication did not explain between-group differences in marital satisfaction or dissolution over 4.5 years, or predict marital outcomes among parents.
