Predicting Personality Coherence across Personality Trait Categories: An Idiographic Analysis of Self-Knowledge and Situational Construals

Idiographically-tailored assessments of beliefs about the self and situational contexts were used to identify cross-situational coherence in personality-relevant behavior. Participants reported consistently, and predictably, high and low frequencies of behavior in clusters of circumstances that were identified idiographically. These idiographically-identified situational clusters commonly violated the structure of nomothetic trait categories.
