Abstract

How does language shape the size of the phonological unit in bilingual spoken word recognition? This unanswered question was addressed by three eye-tracking visual world experiments. The finding provides direct support for the language-specific hypotheses of phonology that, depending on the type of language involved in bilingual spoken word recognition.
