Dual Computer Displays Reduce Extraneous Cognitive Load

Abstract

This field study compared participants in a military training program using one or two computer monitors who reported perceived cognitive load. Participants using dual monitors reported lower cognitive load than participants using one monitor. The benefits of providing two monitors to employees and students may outweigh the costs to organizations.
