Abstract

In a sample of over 145,000 participants, we found that regional pathogen prevalence predicted conservative voting behaviour in the 2016 Presidential Election. US regions with elevated levels of infectious pathogens were more likely to vote in favour of Donald Trump, and this effect was mediated by individuals’ heightened authoritarian attitudes.
