Abstract

We hypothesized that organizational mindsets about history would shape experiences of identity threat among historically marginalized groups. Across two studies, organizations that emphasized history (vs. present), led to lower organizational trust and anticipated belonging among African Americans. These effects were heightened among participants who reported higher levels of stigma consciousness.
