Humorous Phrases Generator: A Citizen Science Project to Provide Insights into the Mechanisms of Humor

Abstract
Humorous phrases represent word combinations that could benignly violate expectations. To test this, we created the Humorous Phrases Generator, which randomly generates word phrases and collects people’s ratings of generated phrases. Results increase our understanding of how word combinations produce mirth, providing meaningful insights into the cognitive mechanisms underlying humor.
