Ambivalent Stereotypes Support Inequality and Conflict – or Peace

Saturday, May 27, 2017 · Boston, MA

General

Stereotypes go beyond mere valence to include ambivalence on universal dimensions of warmth and competence. Societal variables, such as income inequality and peace or conflict, predict ambivalence across nations. Stereotypes may support social systems through psychological mechanisms such as pity and envy, images of rich and poor people, and race-status associations.
