Neurodevelopmental Mechanisms of the Achievement Gap
Children raised in families with low socio-economic status (SES) exhibit worse school performance as early as kindergarten than their peers from higher-SES families. We examine neurodevelopmental mechanisms explaining this achievement gap, including accelerated cortical maturation, neural recruitment in the fronto-parietal network during executive function tasks, and white matter microstructure.
