Highlights advances in the science of self-regulation by presenting theoretical and empirical work regarding mechanisms by which self-regulation may influence substance abuse and psychological adjustment following stressful transitions, including distress tolerance, reward sensitivity, coping, and mindfulness. We also present innovative applications of self-regulation for promoting academic success and psychosocial well-being.
