Abstract

Across three experiments, students (1) were more likely to attribute the underperformance of racial/ethnic minority students to stereotypic factors; (2) perceive stereotype threat as a less valid explanation compared to test anxiety; (3) and perceive all attributions for underperformance as less valid when provided by an outgroup versus ingroup member.
