Abstract

In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study, we compared oxytocin’s effect on facial emotion recognition performance in depressed and anxious participants (N = 60). Depressed participants showed an expected deficit in recognizing happy faces. Contrary to expectations, oxytocin did not improve accuracy or speed of recognition of happy faces relative to placebo.
