The Dynamic Nature of the Resilience Building Process of Teachers in an Alternative High School

Abstract

This year-long ethnography builds upon the psychological domain of Johnson’s (1990) Constellation of Workplace Variables. Analysis of observations, interviews, and artifacts from Second Chance Charter (SCC), a non-traditional/alternative high school for students placed at-risk, reveal that a resilience building process occurs when SCC teachers adapt to workplace stressors or adversity.
