Epistemic Vigilance in a Social Context: Recognizing When Allegiances Distort the Truth

Abstract
We find that participants discount positive information said about friends and negative information said about enemies, suggesting that they are epistemtically vigilant about how people’s social alliances can bias the information they spread. We also found that people trusted positive information about others generally unless others contradicted this positive information.
